Bowes Railway are the only operational preserved standard gauge rope-hauled railway in the world.
The line runs on part of the John Bowes Line, that once ran from North Durham Coal field, with coming from Burnopfiled, Byermoor Colliery Marley Hill Blackburn Fell Drift Kibblesworth Colliery (just to name a few) then rope hualed all the way to though Springwell Yard down Springwell Bankfoot shed where the trains were loco hauled to Jarrow. In later years saw coal also coming from Pelaw Main Railway. which connects to Beamish Colliery System and to Ravensworth Park Drift later knowen as Lady Ann park dift.
hard to belive now that Tanfield Railway and the Bowes Railway were once apart of the same system looking at things today.
